The photographic work of Ruth Patzelt was created in the summer of 2006 in New York in the context of a cooperation. The starting point was a series of drawings, which I had made in February 2006 in Nishinomiya/ Japan, which Ruth transferred into photography and which inspired her work respectively.
The fact that the process led from one of the drawings to a photographic work representing an escalator, inspired me in turn to transfer this topic into a sound work, where I use sound recordings of an escalator as primary material. The adaptation or alienation of the material was effected by electronic means, which were geared among others to the function of an escalator (up and down movements) and by means of which I tried to bring into context aspects of the material but also of the paradigmatic nature of these movements as well as the imagery lying behind them.
