This work is one of a series of “hash functions” of explorations of older real-time recordings. Sounds, which have disappeared from short-time memory, are interwoven to create new structures and thus new contexts are created.
“Fragment L” uses recordings from a trip to Libya in 2003, above all passages blurred by background noises (pop-sounds and rustling), which have been fragmented algorithmically. By means of a function these passages have been assembled into a fragmentary ensemble, thus creating on different levels a journey through acoustic memories. The result was linked by the composition into new levels of spaces, sounds and rhythmic movements. This coherent sequence realizes a new dramatic tension without climax, the abstract act of hearing still being the centre of attention like in all the other works of this series.
