The bases for this composition are tone and sound recordings from Mexico D.F. (Calle Moneda and Plaza de Garibaldi) recorded in March 2007. Due to their rhythm and structuring they in turn release a pulse for sound tableaus, embedded in an electronically enhanced monochord. This instrument, which usually only has got one string, is mainly used in physics (theory of oscillations). The one used in this composition is a self-made by the musician Geari Schreilechner and has got 4 strings (= 4 sounds).
Text: Mexico D.F.: As if the world was put into music in the same moment in one place. Loud, simultaneous, many-voiced – one's own body as an instrument in maximum and permanent activity, as if one's life had to be asserted acoustically at every second. Praising one's goods mutates into polyphone chanting due to the accumulation of sounds and in each cry something else seems to resonate, something different than what is being proclaimed in the text. The public rehearsal of different groups of Mariachi on the Plaza Garibaldi, where they practice what is theirs and playfully react to what comes from others.
My acoustic memories of all this have motivated my search – my attempt to knot a carpet from the sound material that I have accumulated, a carpet which can carry this polyphony as an appearance of the state of being collectively associated.
