The recording of the heartbeat of an unborn child in his mother’s womb is the basis for the piece entitled “Fanny Hearts”. It is the bio acoustic approach to a new life and can also be interpreted as the pleasant anticipation of the arrival of a human being that is going to be very important for the artist’s life, Peter Szely’s child. The recordings are of the heartbeat of his then still unborn daughter which are the ideal counterpart to Sylvia Eckermann´s picture based on x-rays of the inside of her son’s head. The look that we have at that inside conveys a fascination with the brain, the most complex organ that we know, which allows us to perceive and to experience this look in the first place. We look at ourselves, each of us perceiving and recognizing himself individually. This exposed moment of perception realized via technical prosthesis is reflected in the reason for the pictures: a perilous haemangioma in the brain of a 24 year-old implying sorrow and fear for a human being that is very important for the artist’s life. What is imperilled encounters what is precarious in the connection of unborn and suddenly endangered life, the extremes of our existence.
