“Radio Namings” (10’19”),

is a piece about, around, and influenced by the early history and technology of radio. It celebrates the spirit of adventure of the early pioneers of radio, finding many analogies between the development of that technology, and the current development of the internet. Lists of names of Australian radio pioneers and other texts are set, fragmented, and processed by text modification programs, and then spoken / sung by a variety of human and computer voices, accompanied / surrounded by music derived from both the texts themselves, and other historical radio materials. It was commissioned by Andrew Garton for his “Frequency Post” project for ORF’s Kunstradio programme in 2005.
