This video is a sketch within a larger project called ‘The OCAP’ (The obsessive compulsive ‘artificial’ project). The OCAP is an extensive research project within my PhD studies at the University of Reading, UK.
Some of the issues discussed in my thesis are: disability especially obsessional and compulsive disorder, general metaphors and ‘mad science’ within developments of robotics and artificial intelligence, biological and machine issues, models of consciousness and emotion, the obvious lack of intelligence in AI-bots and the question if thereafter fantasies will be ‘materialised’ in a post-human world.
This video shows the world from ONE of many possible perspectives of an apparent ‘artificial’ existence. It uses a known model of perception, the human eye via a camera that simulates a biological perception system. The scenario is a view from a bed to the alien but all too familiar television screen. Voice-over is conversation between humans and AI-bots. Ai-bots were coaxed into admitting that they showed symptoms of OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Only one of them conceded - Dante-bot, a language learning AI-bot.
