The heros story tells about quite a number of females, women and nymphs, who appealed to the hero and who were taken by him. Since the hero was as powerful as he was potent, he fathered with them numerous children, who were all beautiful or strong, respectively. Often in a different form, as a cloud, an eagle, a bull and among others as a swan, but always against the will of the chosen one. These stories tell about abuse. The subject is sexualised and yet they are allegories of the exploitation and appropriation of every human being by their respective rulers. Especially the story of Leda has been explicitly illustrated over and over again through the epochs. Rubens, Da Vinci, Correggio, to name but a few, have created wonderful pictures on this topic. Annettte Wirtz takes up these motives and poses the question what Ledas reaction would have been if she had had the chance to act in a self-determined way.
