POWER WORDS
Two Installations by Tassilo BLITTERSDORFF

The experience of reality is largely constructed acoustically and visually. Reducing language to slogans and images to adapt them to the criterion of 'recognition value' makes their reception simpler and more 'user-friendly', but the risk of manipulation increases. Slogans and related images are becoming increasingly important for power systems and their communication strategies. In this regard power seems to play a central role and the word 'POWER' is therefore the focus of this art project.

Three words existing sentences in which always contain the word 'POWER', which both third person singular of the verb 'make', as can also be a synonym of domination, serve the project as language material. The dual role of 'power', which exists only in German, alludes to ambivalences in official usage. Changing the order of the three words in the sentences produces six different combinations. They can say the opposite of the actual slogans, question this or contain nonsensical meaning shifts. In any case, they prove the relativity or contextual dependence of sentences or slogans.
