Gottfried Bechtold presents his project THE CONCRETE PORSCHE in the exhibition room MAG3
Gottfried Bechtold has devoted himself to the technique of cast concrete since about 1971, the year in which he presented the first concrete Porsche as a cast of his own car in the Gallery Krinzinger, at that time in Bregenz.
With a relatively long distance from the first cast, he created a second one in 2001, the cast of a crash Porsche.
These two works had already featured a strongly structuralist operation method, the last cast from 2006 however, in a way represented a climax. This climax consisted in structurally specifying the operation method and, moreover, to use a technique that had until then been developed and elaborated on the most advanced level. In this way, eleven perfect effigies of a prototype of the Porsche 911 series were created.
Regarding the space of time in which these works were created, one could almost come to believe that this process resembles more a work of nature than a work of man.

The film ELF: ELF about the creation of the concrete Porsche series was originally made for his solo exhibition entitled “Pure and Composite States” (2006) in the Kunsthaus Bregenz and now accompanies the presentation introducing that work where the altogether eleven casts of the already mentioned prototype of the Porsche 911 formed a central aspect of the exhibition.

Moreover, a slide documentation will be shown within the framework of the presentation introducing the sculptural work on a different new project. This work is once again dealing with forms, as they have already been a subject of discussion in ELF:ELF. By devoting itself to the relation between mobility/immobility, it expresses evocative action within the medium of sculpture.

At the end, there will be a performative act, which is considered an example for three-dimensional creative processes per se: taking away or adding.

A GENERAL conversation between Gue Schmidt and Gottfried Bechtold ABOUT THE PROJECT accompanies the evening of the opening.
