CALADOS, a series of sculptural, animation and digital graphics, takes its title from small bricks with perforations which allow air and light to flow through, casting shadows at the same time. Embedded in walls functioning as room dividers Calados are used in urban and regional architecture in Colombia, although it is clear that this type of brick has been created and used all over the world.

Calados are taken from ornamental and functional architectural work to explore in plastic and visual ways their positive and negative spaces. Due to their expressive geometry they allow the serialization and modular composition of the figure as a game between inclusion and exclusion given by the opposition of serial planes, forming geometric networks in relation to the translucency of the material and the interaction of color.

As for the digital graphics, the Calados series takes up experiences from a work on the artistic engraving, particularly the photo silkscreen, resulting from a visual exploration of the urban landscape of the cities of Medellín and Bogotá. These images constitute a micro scene on which the urban theater of the city can be superimposed, with its passions, encounters and daily disagreements, the image of a vestige, residue or ruin; a space apparently worthless, used, public domain, transient, anodyne, improper, susceptible of being erased from memory and replaced by another architectural novelty.

November 15th [Wednesday] 2017, 7:00 p.m.
Colombian Elegy for Calados in 3 sets, Solo concert by Karl Wilhelm Krbavac on viola da gamba.

Short notice:
All those who know Karl Wilhelm Krbavac´s compositions, will know that they will not hear any Colombian music in this concert - not because he doesn't care for it - he rather deals with the objects and graphics by Tulio RESTREPO presented in the exhibition CALADOS.

In the following a short text extract from CALADOS which could also be applied to the Colombian Elegy for Calados in three movements: Due to their expressive geometry they allow the serialization and modular composition of the figure as a game between inclusion and exclusion given by the opposition of serial planes, forming geometric networks in relation to the translucency of the material and the interaction of color.

During the VIENNA ART WEEK Off-Space Night:
