The names of Vienna's public spaces such as streets, squares or parks, are referring to topographical designations and local events-or to "individuals who deserve a public tribute due to their lives and activities" (Vienna Municipal Council). In recent years there have been increasing demands for renaming Vienna's public spaces, some of which were complied with (such as Kernstockplatz or Lueger-Ring), others not (e.g. Weinheber-Platz or Arnezhofergasse). What should be done with the name of L-Stadt, the district that is named in honor of the expeller of Jews from Vienna?

Eduard Freudmann is an artist and teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Amongst other topics, his work deals with historical-political manifestations in public space.
